Grand Rapids African American Youth
Chorus (GRAAYC)
Directed
by Kaye Davis
About the
performance group:
The Grand Rapids African American Youth Chorus was founded in October of
2011 by Kaye Davis, a retired Music Specialist from the Grand Rapids
Public School. The primary purpose of GRAAYC is to bring cultural
awareness of the rich and diverse legacy, historical significance, and
musical contributions of African American composers, arrangers, and
performers. The chorus also acknowledge and welcome works of many other
composers, through out the world, who’s music conveys world peace, love,
and respect for all mankind. Their repertoire includes music from work
songs, spirituals, gospel, world music, musical theater and other
selections with contemporary themes.
The youth of GRAAYC, grades 3 through 8, are provided an opportunity to
discover their individual talents, skills and creative expression, as
well as learning the importance of their collective contribution to the
arts in our community.
