Many social workers and social work students express that they don't like social policy. In many cases this dislike stems from the harsh rhetoric that has been a part of current political discourse. This session presents an innovative approach to thinking about social policy that allows social workers and students to "jump in to the political river without drowning" while strengthening critical thinking skills and political decision-making along the way.

Jane Hoyt-Oliver, LISW-S, PhD, recently retired as a Professor of Social Work at Malone University where she has taught social policy for over 30 years. She is the author of "Parenting in Transracial Adoption: Real Questions and Real Answers," and is currently the editor in chief of NACSW's journal, Social Work & Christianity.
